you are: Fast movements of plants
Three types of movements described in this chapter, - fast movements at a mimosa, movements of a trap at insectivorous plants and a twisting of short moustaches - depend on specialised bodies or the systems which are available not at all plants; however they, probably, have more a general meaning, than believed earlier. All plants in usual conditions are exposed to mechanical influences: they are blown by a wind, they adjoin to insects and other animals, with the next plants; their roots, making the way through soil, constantly overcome force of a friction. it is known that mechanical forces change morphology and plant development. This complex morfogeneticheskih the reactions, named tigmomorfogenezom, probably, is mediated, as well as a twisting of short moustaches, etilenom. Between these two reactions there are some functional similarities and consequently studying of a twisting of short moustaches could help with understanding of other, more widespread phenomena.
Some physiologists believe that the changing potentials described for the first time at a mimosa, can arise also in essence at all plants as generalizovannaja reaction to damage. we just start to estimate a role of electric signals in coordination of activity of cages in various parts of a plant, and in the close future it is necessary to expect progress in this area. Here much can give studying of the fast movements depending on specialised, easily identified cages.
